zsh-2.6-beta17 and PATH variable

There is an apparent problem with the way "PATH" variable gets inherited.
If I invoke zsh-2.6-beta17 from within another shell (sh, for example),
it loses the contents of "PATH" (previously exported, of course) and sets
"PATH" to the value of "path".
