I did some testing of this and applied it. It had been me that separated
watch into a module and I know I was dissatisfied with the variable
setup at the time. That may have been more related to importing the
value from the environment. Do you see a way to have this apply a value
of WATCH that has come from the environment.

At the time, I mentioned that it'd be good to do something similar for
the mail checking. Honouring $MAILPATH from the environment likely does
matter. It could be more useful to have separate mbox/MH/maildir modules
instead of the --enable-maildir-support configure option. Does anyone
know whether with maildir you're supposed to point the path to the
top-level, cur or new directories?
