there are going to be a few fixes like that that aren't in 5.9.1 because
i had to manually pick through 4 years of commits and some were either
rejected for being too risky/complicated or just overlooked. in this
case probably the latter, sorry

idk. ideally we would try to move 5.10 forward instead. but i'm not sure
how close it is exactly. philippe has a bunch of out-standing patches
that haven't been reviewed at all yet i think
at the very least let's give 5.9.1 a week or two to settle. i would be
more inclined to do a follow-up if there are regressions
