FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD do as well.

Illumos uses "manager" and "subsidiary" (https://illumos.org/man/4D/pty).

AIX uses "controller" and "worker"
(https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/aix/7.3?topic=files-pty-special-file).

Are Linux or the BSDs planning on making similar changes?  If not,
we could be waiting for a very long time.
