Quick sleepy brainstorm:
SERIOUS DIVISION
readall - sensible, moderately self-descriptive
readfile - sounds like it can only be used with files
readinput - not obvious how this differs from read(1)
GOOFY DIVISION
chug
guzzle
inhale
quaff
siphon
swig - would probably be confused with SWIG
vacuum
